Just outside the glitz and glitter of Las Vegas lies America's first and foremost recreation area and the second largest reservoir in the United States. Lake Mead National Recreation Area encompassing 1.5 million acres over Utah, Nevada, and Arizona including Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Lake Mohave, and Davis Dam is open 24/7 and waiting for you. Lake Mead boasts some 550 miles of shoreline and some 250 square miles of surface area all backed up by the Hoover Dam.
Hoover Dam, completed in 1936 originally known as Boulder Dam is an amazing tribute to human tenacity and ingenuity. The Nevada, Arizona State line runs though the middle of the dam and is one of the few places where you can literally be in two places at once. The best way to experience Hoover Dam is straddling the saddle of a rumbling motorcycle. After crossing the Arizona State line we continue to Willow Beach, a 1500 year old Indian trading ground on the Colorado River nestled at the bottom of the Black Canyon. Once at the river we can take a break and go for a swim if you are brave enough endure the chilling water of the mighty Colorado River. Utilities are available.
